All children seem to develop at their own pace. Every child has some characteristic that develops earlier than others. My son was only 2 1/2 when his father moved out. He had begun talking at an early age. He spoke in complete sentences and his words were very clear before he was 2 years old. When Dad moved out, he began to stutter. I felt incredible guilt over this because I was the one who instigated the divorce. But children are very resilient. Much more so than us adults. After consulting with my son's doctor, I was told to ignore it. Both his father and myself did just that, and, incredibly, the stuttering just disappeared. My child adjusted to the changes in his life, and his stress response, never validated, now disappeared! Today he is in his 20's and continues to be very articulate and well spoken!
